Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers some of the main features of the maps, noting the central 25m pool, the outdoor courts in the present day, and the addition of features like the leisure pool, sports hall, and dance studios in the future. However, the task is only partially addressed because the overview is weak, and comparisons between the two plans are largely missing. Furthermore, the selection of features is somewhat limited and lacks precision regarding spatial relationships, such as how the building expands over the former outdoor courts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is an attempt at organization, using sequencing words like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to structure the response. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the transitions between ideas feel mechanical and disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs are often strung together loosely without adequate or accurate cohesive devices, making the flow difficult to follow in places.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for describing a map, relying on basic terms such as 'sports center', 'pool', 'gym', and 'shop'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'its look like' instead of 'what it will look like', 'mane sections' instead of 'main sections', and 'involve' instead of 'included'. These inaccuracies reflect a restricted range of vocabulary, though communication of the basic spatial layout is generally maintained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response features a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, and attempts at more complex constructions are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The below chart show', missing articles ('on east side'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward verb forms such as 'develop leisure pool'. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally puzzle over the meaning.
