Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by outlining both the present layout and the future redevelopment plans of the university sports centre. An adequate overview is presented in the second paragraph, highlighting the main changes such as the removal of outdoor courts, the addition of new facilities like the leisure pool, dance studios, and sports hall, and the extension of entrance services. Key features and comparisons are generally reported accurately, such as the retention of the 25m pool and central gym alongside the expansion of surrounding areas. However, some details are slightly under-developed or imprecise regarding exact spatial locations, which prevents the score from reaching a higher level, though all core information required for the prompt is suitably addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introductory outline to specific spatial details in the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the overview from the detailed breakdowns. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the changes, utilizing markers such as 'Overall', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly'. However, cohesion is sometimes slightly mechanical, and referencing becomes a little unclear in places, such as when referring back to changing rooms or outdoor areas without precise anchors. To move to a higher band, referencing links need to be smoother and cohesive devices more naturally varied throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common terminology related to architecture and facility layouts, such as 'redevelopment plan', 'additional facilities', and 'north-eastern corner'. However, there are notable spelling slips and minor word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'occured' instead of 'occurred', 'specially' instead of 'especially', 'lesiure' instead of 'leisure', and 'sportshall' as one word. Additionally, phrases like 'east-southern area' are slightly unnatural compared to standard locational collocations like 'south-eastern area'. These lexical errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at this level, but greater precision and flawless spelling are needed for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and descriptive clauses such as 'Western outdoor courts will be turned into the leisure pool having changing room in their southern region.' There are several noticeable grammar and punctuation errors, including tense and voice issues like 'will be occured', preposition slips such as 'on the either sides', and missing articles in phrases like 'having changing room' and 'location reception'. While these errors do not impede overall communication and demonstrate a functional control of grammar, they occur frequently enough with complex structures to prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
