Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially because the overview of the main trends or changes is missing. Instead of summarising the general transformation—such as the significant expansion of the building to accommodate new recreational facilities—the writer immediately jumps into specific details. Furthermore, the description contains inaccuracies regarding spatial relationships, such as stating that the changing room is to the east and the seating is to the west, which reverses the actual layout provided in the prompt. While some features like the 25m pool, gym, and outdoor courts are mentioned, ideas remain limited and under-developed due to the lack of clear comparison and overall structure.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some organisation by dividing the current and future layouts into two separate paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression or effective logical flow. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on basic linkers and phrases like 'When we enter' or 'in diagram includes'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the sentences is often faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial transitions smoothly across the maps. Pronoun referencing and directional markers are sometimes inaccurate or confusing, which disrupts the progression of information.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for describing a basic layout, featuring terms like 'sports centre', 'outdoor courts', 'reception', and 'pool'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'upcoming times' instead of 'the future', 'final looks' instead of 'layout', and 'sports cafe' instead of 'café'. Repetition of basic words like 'located', 'east', and 'west' restricts the range. While communication is generally maintained, these inaccuracies and limited phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher level of lexical flexibility and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic descriptive clauses. Attempts at complex or longer sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on constructions and punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after periods ('times. The picture') and commas. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement and prepositions, such as 'The current sports centre include' instead of 'includes', 'facilties' (though a spelling error, it reflects structural control issues), and prepositions like 'to the west side and east side from' instead of 'on'. These persistent errors can cause some difficulty and strain for the reader.
