Student answer (Band 6.0)
The illustration gives information about change in sports centre of a university and how it will look after its redevelopment. Overall, the major change will be on the sides of building which are the outdoor courts where many rooms will be contructed for the need of time and after redevelopment the sport center will look modern.
It is quite evident from the plan that the gym area will be increased and the seating site and changing room will have no change. Both of the outdoor courts will be developed to other clubs and studios. Moreover, on left side sports hall and two dance studios will be built. Every room will be linked to other with doors.
Furthermore, sports shop and cafe will be added on sides of reception. Two new changing rooms will also be constructed and there will be a leisure pool for enjoyment purposes. The length of the pool will be remained 25m.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main features of the university sports centre before and after redevelopment. The overview is somewhat basic, noting that the major changes occur on the sides of the building. While the writer successfully reports key transformations such as the expansion of the gym, the retention of the 25m pool, and the addition of a leisure pool, sports hall, dance studios, shop, and café, some details are underdeveloped or slightly imprecise. For instance, the mention that 'on left side sports hall and two dance studios will be built' confuses the spatial orientation, as the sports hall and dance studios are actually located on the eastern side of the plan. However, the overall selection of features meets the requirements for a satisfactory response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from an introductory overview to specific spatial details in the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used to separate the general introduction from the body descriptions. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'It is quite evident', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' are employed to guide the reader through the comparison, though some referencing and connective choices feel slightly mechanical or formulaic. Pronoun referencing and linking between sentences are generally clear, enabling the reader to follow the spatial layout described across the two plans, even if a few directional errors disrupt absolute clarity.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying general changes such as 'redevelopment', 'constructed', and 'expanded'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'contructed' instead of constructed, 'sport center' instead of sports centre, and awkward phrasing like 'for the need of time' and 'for enjoyment purposes'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'redevelopment' and 'leisure pool', but occasional inaccuracies in collocation and word form prevent the response from achieving a higher band. These lexical slips do not heavily impede communication but remain noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as relative clauses and passive constructions like 'will be built' and 'will be added'. There are some grammatical errors in article use, prepositions, and verb tenses, such as 'change in sports centre' missing an article, 'on sides of building' and 'on sides of reception', and 'The length of the pool will be remained 25m' where an incorrect passive voice is used. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and punctuation is generally handled well enough to ensure the meaning remains comprehensible.
