Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is a layout plans of university's sport centre. And we have to analyse the changings and look after the redevelopment.

Present layout has an entrance from South to North, Reception just after the entrance, a pool of 25m in the middle, on the right of enterance a seating area and on the left a changing room exists.

There are also Outdoor courts at both sides.

And the future plans s also discussed thoroughly which includes a Reception just after the enterance, a pool of 25m in the middle. On the rightof pool, there is a cafe, a changing room, a seating area, sports hall, two Dance studios and at the back of pool, a gym exists.

On the right side of enterance, there are a sports shop, two changing rooms, and at the corner a Leisure pool. This is the future layout of university's sport centre and features like Dance studios, a Sports Hall and a Leisure pool are the additoons in past Layout.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several key features, including the central 25m pool, the reception to its south, the existing outdoor courts and the addition of facilities such as a sports hall and dance studios. However, the comparison is only partial and some future locations are misreported: the café and new changing room are in the south-east, not to the right of the pool, while the sports shop and added changing room are in the south-west. The leisure pool is also west of the main pool, not at the corner as stated. There is no clear overview of the main change—that the building expands over both outdoor-court areas and gains a wider range of facilities. A more accurate overview and clearer location details would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows a basic present-to-future order, which gives the reader a starting point for understanding the plans. However, the information is presented as one sequence of loosely connected statements rather than in clearly organised paragraphs, and several sentences begin with “And,” making the progression feel repetitive. The future-plan description is especially difficult to follow because it groups facilities by “right” and “left” without consistently identifying their position relative to the pool or entrance. The final sentence repeats the list of additions rather than providing a concise summary. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the current and proposed layouts; use precise references such as “to the east of the seating” to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “entrance,” “reception,” “seating area,” “outdoor courts,” and “redevelopment.” This gives the response a minimally adequate range for the task. However, several word choices and forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “changings,” “sport centre,” “enterance,” and “additoons.” “At the back of pool” is also imprecise for describing a position on a plan, and repeated use of “right” and “left” limits precision. Use standard forms such as “changes” and “sports centre,” and learn location phrases such as “to the north of,” “in the south-east corner,” and “along the eastern side.” Proofreading spelling would also make the description easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most of the response uses short, simple statements, and the reader can generally identify the facilities being described. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “There is a layout plans” has a subject–verb and number mismatch, while “a pool of 25m in the middle” has an awkward noun phrase and article use. The sentence beginning “And the future plans…” is also incomplete in structure, and “the additions in past Layout” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are inconsistent, including the opening fragment “And we have to analyse…”. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine related details using controlled clauses and consistent present/future forms.
