Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main contrast between the current and proposed layouts, including the expansion of the centre, the addition of facilities, and the retention of the 25m pool and reception. The overview also notes that the outdoor courts are replaced, although it would be more precise to say the western courts become a leisure pool and the eastern courts are built over for new indoor facilities. Some details are unclear or inaccurate: the changing rooms increase by two, not three, and the sports hall is east of the seating rather than simply on the eastern area. The response covers the task and selects relevant features, but several changes are only briefly described. More exact locations and a clearer account of the gym’s extension would strengthen the comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and some linking expressions do not show a clear relationship. For example, “Where” and “Therefore” in the overview are awkwardly connected, while “However” introduces details that are not contrasts. The final paragraph also moves from unchanged central features to the sports shop and café without a consistent spatial sequence. Grouping the description by west, centre, and east, and using simpler, more accurate links such as “In addition” or “By contrast,” would make the organisation clearer and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “redevelopment,” “outdoor courts,” “leisure pool,” “eastern side,” and “remain unchanged.” These terms show an adequate range for the task, and the reader can generally identify the facilities being discussed. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “the area … develop into” is not a natural way to describe replacement, and “the sports Shop is open for members” adds an unsupported purpose. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “sports Shop,” and “cafe” would conventionally be written “café.” Aim for precise plan-description verbs such as “is replaced by,” “is added,” and “is extended,” and avoid adding functions that are not shown in the diagrams.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction occur often enough to make some sentences awkward. Examples include “the university's sports center develop,” “the area … is also extend,” and “the 25m pool and reception area is remain unchanged.” These need forms such as “develops,” “is extended,” and “remain unchanged.” The fragment-like sequence “Where, the two outdoor courts…” also disrupts the sentence, while “below the leisure pool and dance studio changing room is build” has unclear structure and agreement. Practise accurate passive constructions for planned changes and check subject–verb agreement, tense, and sentence boundaries.
