Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates the coversion plan of a university sports complex in future. Overall, majority of the complex is planned to be shifted to more indoor activities by introducing more entertainment activities including dance studios, cafes and leisure pool.
To begin with, the enterance will be more facinating as a cafe and a sports shops will be introduced. The most sigificant changes which are in plans is to finish both outdoor courts. The courts on the east side of complex will accomodate a sports hall. There will be two dedicated dance studios along with a changing room at southern area. The gum will also be extended horizantlly toward the east.
Finally, the western side will have just one major change . A full size leisure pool will be constructed in place of whole outdoor courts of that area with a dedicated changing room as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main direction of change: the centre will expand indoors, with a leisure pool, sports hall and dance studios replacing or occupying areas formerly used as outdoor courts. However, the account is only partial and some important details are unclear or inaccurate. The eastern side is described as having two dance studios “along with a changing room at southern area,” but the plans place the studios along the eastern wall and show a café and changing room in the south-east. You also say the entrance will become more attractive because of the café and shop, although the central reception and entrance remain in place; the shop is added in the south-west. The overview is useful but broad, and several changes need more precise reporting. The response is also five words below the required minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening overview followed by descriptions of the eastern and western changes. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Finally” help signal progression, and the reader can generally follow the comparison. However, the organisation is not fully effective because the first body paragraph combines the entrance, courts, sports hall, studios and gym without clearly distinguishing the southern and eastern areas. The final paragraph then returns to the western side, but the relationship between the two plans is not consistently made explicit. Some linking is mechanical, and the full stops in “change . A” and “area.” interrupt the flow. Grouping features by location and using clearer references to the present and proposed layouts would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing redevelopment, including “introduced,” “accommodate,” “extended” and “constructed,” and terms such as “outdoor courts” and “leisure pool” suit the task. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “coversion,” “enterance,” “sigificant,” “accomodate” and “horizantlly,” which reduce accuracy. Some word choices or collocations are also imprecise: “finish both outdoor courts” is not a natural way to describe their removal, and “more entertainment activities” does not accurately capture the range of sports facilities shown. “The entrance will be more fascinating” is also an unsuitable description of the planned changes. Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including an overview sentence with “by introducing” and a longer sentence describing the eastern courts. Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical choices are inaccurate. For example, “majority of the complex” needs a determiner, and “the most significant changes which are in plans is” has an unclear clause structure and subject–verb agreement problem. In “There will be two dedicated dance studios along with a changing room at southern area,” the location phrase needs an article and clearer grammatical placement. The response also relies heavily on simple future constructions, so it shows limited structural variety. Practise accurate complex sentences for describing what will replace, remain, or be added in particular locations.
