Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify several relevant features, including the central 25m pool, the gym, reception, seating, and the addition of a leisure pool, sports hall, dance studio, shop and café. However, the response mainly lists locations and does not give a clear overview of the redevelopment, such as the building expanding over the outdoor courts or the range of new facilities being added. Some positions are also unclear or inaccurate: the present changing room is west of the pool, but you place it on the left in the future plan without making clear that the original central changing room remains. The response is 143 words, below the required 150. Develop a concise overview and describe the main changes more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: it first describes the present plan and then moves to the future plan, signalled by “First of all” and “Secondly.” This gives the reader a simple way to distinguish the two stages. However, there is little progression within either description: many details are joined in a long chain using “and” and repeated phrases such as “the left side” and “the right side.” This makes relationships between rooms difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the current and proposed layouts, and group features by area—for example, the western additions and then the eastern additions. Clearer linking and reference would make the description easier to navigate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “25m pool,” “Gym,” “Reception,” “Seating,” “Leisure pool,” and “Sports hall,” so the reader can recognise many of the facilities being described. However, the range is limited and repetitive, especially in repeated uses of “side” and “show.” Some expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “the down side” and “the pool right side,” and “Out courts” does not clearly name the outdoor courts. Spelling and word-form errors, including “niversity's,” “sport center,” and “abd,” also reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of location phrases, such as “to the west of,” “in the south-east corner,” and “along the eastern wall,” and use verbs such as “remain,” “replace,” and “extend.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response communicates some basic locations through simple clauses, for example, “the center the pool 25m” and “the uper side the Gym.” However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in word order, articles, prepositions and verb forms make several relationships difficult to understand. The opening sentence, “The plans below show the layout of niversity's sports centre now,” is missing the initial letter in the possessive phrase, while “the future plans show the university sport center the new plans show” lacks a clear grammatical connection between its ideas. Punctuation is also insufficient, with long strings of details joined together. Practise complete sentences using patterns such as “The gym is north of the pool” and “A sports hall will be added east of the seating.”
