Student answer (Band 5.5)

The provided plans below illustrates the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Overll, it is evident that after redevelopment many things are going to changed. Many new changes are their in future plan.

The plan clearly illustrates that some area will not change in future such as gym, changing room, seating & reception. Whereas, In one hand west side outdoor courts area will develop in future by making some changes there like making leisure pool and in other hand east side outdoor courts area will also evolved in future by making changes there such as making sports hall & dance studio there.

The sides of reception area will enhanced in future because the plan delineates that in future at left side of reception there will be changing room and sports shop and at right side of reception there will be cafe and changing room. Hence, the University Sports Centre has a great evolution in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main contrast between the current centre and its redevelopment, including the western leisure pool and the eastern sports hall and dance studios. You also note that some facilities remain and that new rooms are planned beside reception. However, the overview is vague (“many things are going to changed”) and does not clearly summarise the major change: the building expands over both sets of outdoor courts. Some details are imprecise; for example, the gym is not simply unchanged, as it extends eastward. The response is 149 words, one word below the 150-word minimum, and 16 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. Develop a clearer overview and describe the main additions more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats the idea that there will be “many new changes,” and the final sentence adds a general judgement rather than a useful summary of the plan. Linking is also sometimes mechanical or unclear, particularly “Whereas, In one hand … and in other hand,” which makes the west–east comparison harder to follow. Organise the details by area and use straightforward links such as “to the west,” “by contrast,” and “in the south-east.” Clearer referencing would also help distinguish the existing reception from the new rooms beside it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “redevelopment,” “leisure pool,” “sports hall,” and “dance studio,” so the reader can identify several key facilities. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “many new changes,” “will also evolved,” and “great evolution.” These expressions make the description less precise or natural. Spelling errors such as “Overll” and “cafe” also reduce accuracy. Aim for concise, conventional map language: describe facilities as being added, retained, replaced, or extended, and use directional phrases consistently. This would make your comparisons clearer without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison beginning “Whereas” and a sentence explaining what will be added on either side of reception. However, errors are frequent, and some complex constructions are faulty. For example, “The provided plans below illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “many things are going to changed” is missing “be.” The future description “will also evolved” uses the wrong verb form, and “some area will not change” has a number-agreement problem. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent. Use a reliable pattern such as “The plans illustrate…” and “A leisure pool will replace the western courts,” then check agreement and verb forms in each sentence.
