Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation: the centre expands into the areas occupied by the outdoor courts, adding facilities while retaining the central pool, seating, reception and changing room. This gives the response a relevant overview and covers most key features. Several details are also accurately located, including the western leisure pool and shop, and the eastern sports hall and dance studios. However, some descriptions are unclear or imprecise: the new café is not simply “on right side of reception,” and “In front of cafeteria” does not clearly convey that the sports hall is north of the café. The gym’s extension is also described as occupying “double area,” which is not established by the plan. More precise comparisons and clearer positioning would complete the overview more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the western and eastern additions, then noting what remains unchanged. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven, and several linking words are overused or do not express the relationship clearly. For example, “Whereas” and “While” repeatedly begin fragments or loosely connected statements, and “Moreover” adds little to the description of the gym and studios. The reference “this all changes” is also vague. Organise the details by area—west, centre and east—and use fewer, more precise links such as “to the west” and “in addition.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable set of topic-specific terms, including “leisure pool,” “sports hall,” “dance studio” and “outdoor courts,” so the main facilities are generally identifiable. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “replace” and “remained same.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “unviersity” is misspelled, “cafeteria” is less consistent with the plan’s label “café,” and “demolished” is not the most suitable verb for removing outdoor courts. Phrases such as “adding things” and “various things” are too general for a map report. Use accurate facility names and more specific terms for expansion, replacement and location.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “which” and “while,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, agreement and sentence boundaries. For example, “The diagram illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “Sports centre will modified” is missing the passive form “be modified.” “Gym will occupied” has the same problem, and “Which will connect…” is a sentence fragment. Capitalisation after commas and within sentences is also inconsistent. Practise forming accurate future passive sentences and joining dependent clauses to a complete main clause; this will make your descriptions clearer while preserving your attempts at varied structures.
