Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main change: the outdoor courts are replaced by indoor facilities, including a leisure pool to the west and a sports hall and dance studios to the east. You also note that the reception, seating and a changing room remain in place, and your final overview correctly recognises the greater range of leisure facilities. However, some important features are omitted or unclear: the gym expands eastward, and the future plan adds a second changing room near the café as well as one beside the sports shop. The description of the café as being “on the right side of the entrance” is imprecise; it is in the south-east corner, beyond the sports hall. A clearer overview and more precise coverage of the main additions would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable progression from the present layout to the redevelopment, followed by a brief overall statement. Grouping the western and eastern changes together also helps the reader compare the plans. However, the first paragraph combines several changes in a long sentence, making the relationships between features difficult to follow. Phrases such as “and also” recur, while “the present picture” and “the future plans” are repeated without always making the reference clear. The second paragraph shifts to the entrance area, but its left/right descriptions would be easier to follow if linked explicitly to the plan’s west and east. Use shorter, clearly focused sentences and organise the comparison by area.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “reception,” “changing room,” “outdoor courts,” “sports hall” and “leisure pool,” so the main facilities are generally identifiable. You also attempt more descriptive language, but expressions such as “well suited leisure pool,” “well structured future plans” and “tremendious eye catching features” are not natural or suitably precise for an objective report. “Remodelled” is also an awkward choice for describing the replacement of outdoor courts with indoor facilities. Spelling errors such as “tremendious” reduce accuracy. Aim for neutral, location-focused wording and use precise verbs such as “replace,” “extend” and “add” rather than promotional descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences and use present and future references, but errors in sentence structure and agreement are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. For example, “The diagrams illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “now and after redevelopment will look like” is missing a clear grammatical link. In “The present pictures university sports centre shows,” the noun phrase is not formed correctly, and “the outdoor courts … has” should use a plural verb. Several clauses are joined with “and also” without clear punctuation, creating run-on sentences. Practise accurate sentence openings and agreement, then divide descriptions of separate locations into complete sentences.
