Overall, the sports centre will undergo significant expansion, with several new facilities added and existing areas enlarged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You provide a clear overview that the centre will expand and gain facilities, and you compare the present and proposed layouts. Several details are accurately reported, including the new leisure pool, sports hall, dance studios and additional changing room. However, some key positions and changes are misrepresented: the new changing room is not “in front of the pool,” and the reception is not expanded to include the café and sports shop. The café and shop are separate additions in different parts of the enlarged building. You also say the eastern outdoor courts will be replaced by a larger gym, whereas the gym extends eastward along the north and the courts are replaced by other facilities. More precise coverage of the layout would make the account more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable progression: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This makes the main message easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Moreover” help signal relationships. However, the description is not consistently organised by location: the paragraph about the west combines the leisure pool with the café and shop, while the final paragraph shifts to the east and then back to the southern corner. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “in front of the pool” are unclear. Grouping details by west, centre and east, and using accurate directional references, would create smoother progression and clearer cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a redevelopment, including “proposed future design,” “significant expansion,” “facilities,” and “replaced.” These choices communicate the general changes, and the response attempts some more specific language. There are, however, several imprecise or awkward expressions: “one single pool” is redundant, “in front of the pool” does not clearly describe a map position, and “in the east side” is an unnatural collocation. “Sport centre” is also less consistent than the task’s “sports centre.” Greater precision with directional and spatial vocabulary would help distinguish where each facility is located and make the description more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the overview clause “with several new facilities added” and the relative clause “which will have the most notable changes.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. For example, “the pool.in addition” needs a sentence boundary and capital letter, while “two new dance studio” requires a plural noun. The sentence beginning “In the east side” is also incomplete in structure after “such as,” and the final sentence has an awkwardly attached detail. Review sentence boundaries, plural agreement and the construction of longer sentences; this will help you retain variety while improving accuracy.
