Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main comparison between the current centre and its planned redevelopment, including the retained 25m pool and the addition of facilities where the outdoor courts are now. However, the account is only partial: the eastern changes are compressed into “sports hall, dance studio, two hall and changing room, cafe,” so the locations and two separate dance studios are not clearly reported. The overview, “a positive redevelopment,” gives an opinion rather than summarising the main physical changes. The response also contains 125 words, below the required 150; this limits the opportunity to describe the plans fully. To improve, give a clear overview of the centre’s expansion and added indoor facilities, then describe the west and east changes accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall sequence: it describes the present layout, moves to the future plan, and ends with a concluding sentence. This helps the reader recognise the comparison being attempted. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear. For example, “the four area is in north, east, south and west” does not explain which facility is in each direction, and the long list of future additions is difficult to follow. The repeated use of “and” also makes relationships between features unclear. Organise the response into a brief overview followed by separate descriptions of the western and eastern redevelopment, using clear location links such as “to the west” and “in the south-east.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “25m pool,” “outdoor courts,” “leisure pool,” and “sports shop.” These terms show an attempt to report the facilities rather than discuss an unrelated topic. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms make the description unclear: “gym are rise in area” and “two hall” do not communicate the intended changes precisely. There are also spelling errors in “reseption” and inconsistent forms such as “sports center” and “sports centre.” Build a more accurate set of map-description phrases, including “is expanded,” “is replaced by,” and “is added,” and check facility names and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to use both present and future time, and the basic sentence order is sometimes understandable. However, grammatical control is weak and errors occur throughout, often making relationships between facilities difficult to interpret. Examples include “The given map give us information the changes,” where the verb form and sentence construction are faulty, and “the four area is,” which has a number-agreement error. In “gym are rise in area,” the verb form is also incorrect. Most sentences rely on simple statements or lists, with little accurate use of complex structures. Practise forming clear comparison sentences with correct subject–verb agreement and passive forms, for example, “The outdoor courts will be replaced by a leisure pool.”
