Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast between the current centre and the expanded future plan, and you mention several new facilities, including a leisure pool, sports hall, dance studios and a shop. However, the overview is broad rather than precise: “a huge transformation” does not clearly explain that the building expands over the outdoor courts while the central pool, changing room, seating and reception remain in place. Some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, you say the outdoor courts will be “rebuild with” facilities, but the western courts are replaced by a leisure pool and the eastern area gains a sports hall and dance studios. The café and additional changing room are in the south-east, not simply “downside” of the courts. Select and describe these changes more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview and separate descriptions of the present and future layouts. This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are repeated, particularly the transformation of the outdoor courts and the list of new facilities. Linking is also sometimes awkward: “where as” introduces a contrast without clearly connecting the information, while “No changes will do the middle” makes the relationship between unchanged and altered areas difficult to follow. Organise the future features by location—for example, west, east and south-east—and use clear references to distinguish the two plans. This would make the comparison easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “leisure pool,” “sports hall,” “outdoor courts” and “dance studio,” so the reader can identify many of the facilities. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are imprecise, which sometimes makes the description difficult to interpret. “Sports arena” is not the label shown in the plan, and “rebuilding” is less suitable than “redevelopment” for this context. Phrases such as “small facilities,” “a large number of activities” and “downside of the outdoor courts” do not accurately describe rooms or their positions. There are also spelling and spacing slips, including “Outddor,” “cafe” and missing spaces after commas. Use precise location and change vocabulary, such as “to the west” and “will be replaced by.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer structures, including “Overall, the sports center will undergo a huge transformation, where adding more facilities,” but this construction is incomplete: after “where,” a full clause is needed, or the sentence can be recast as “with the addition of…”. Other sentences also show frequent problems with verb forms and sentence structure. “No changes will do the middle of the building” does not express the intended meaning grammatically; use “The middle of the building will remain unchanged.” In “outdoor areas changing only,” the verb form and clause structure are incomplete. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also inconsistently controlled, as in “add sports shop and cafe.” Practise accurate passive forms for plans and use complete sentences to describe what will be added, removed or retained.
