Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both questions: it identifies causes such as poverty, unequal food distribution, disasters and conflict, then proposes government support, improved distribution and agricultural investment. These are relevant ideas, and the examples of floods, droughts and conflict help illustrate the causes. However, some points are only partly explained. For instance, the link between low income and inability to obtain nutritious food is clear, but the proposed employment support is unfinished in “create employment opportunities poor families child.” The solutions also need more explanation of how they would reduce hunger. To strengthen the response, develop each main cause and solution with a clear explanation or specific example, and make the central argument more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. The contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps signal the two parts of the discussion, and examples generally follow the ideas they support. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several points are joined in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the discussion of food distribution, waste, disasters and war moves quickly without clear separation. Some linking phrases, such as “Similarly” and “Furthermore,” introduce ideas but do not always show their precise relationship. Use shorter, clearly focused sentences and organise each paragraph around a small number of developed points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “unequal distribution,” “food wastage,” “droughts,” “crops,” “irrigation facilities” and “food transportation.” This gives the essay an adequate range for discussing hunger and agriculture. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “unemployment skills,” “less amount of product make” and “government should better food distribution.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “governmnets” and “organising” where the intended form is unclear in context. These issues sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for this topic and checking spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay attempts both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if use modern farming technology” and clauses explaining how floods and droughts affect crops. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement and articles sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “this essay will be discuss,” “there many solutions,” and “people still suffers.” The sentence beginning “if government supports poor families” is also incomplete and does not clearly express the intended result. Capitalisation and punctuation are uneven, particularly at sentence beginnings. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and verb forms before adding subordinate clauses.
