Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The link between population growth and poverty is stated but not clearly explained, and the argument regarding food import taxes is somewhat simplistic. While the response covers the requirements, the ideas lack depth and specific, well-integrated examples. The essay remains quite general throughout, and the solutions provided (e.g., 'ban the tax') are not fully explored in terms of their feasibility or broader economic impact. To improve, you should provide more detailed explanations and nuanced examples to support your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by mechanical and repetitive use of cohesive devices. For example, the phrase 'for instance' is used multiple times in a way that feels forced rather than natural. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear flow, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument smoothly. Improving the variety of linking words and refining sentence structure would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'good', 'solve', and 'people' throughout the text. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'at the Great level' and 'tax prices should bi reduce'. These errors occasionally draw attention to themselves, though they do not completely impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to economics and agriculture, while ensuring that your spelling and word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Agriculture made the various developments'), article usage ('the poverty line'), and sentence fragments. Punctuation is also problematic, with several instances of incorrect capitalization and missing spaces after punctuation marks. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence boundary control and consistent verb tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
