Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for hunger and suggesting solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat illogical. For instance, the argument that mechanization is the primary cause of global hunger is a significant oversimplification and lacks nuance. The example provided regarding farm fires in India is specific but does not effectively support the broader claim about mechanization causing hunger. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and rely on questionable premises, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on providing more balanced, evidence-based arguments that reflect a deeper understanding of global agricultural and economic issues.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'On the contrary, the combat issue,' which does not naturally introduce the solutions paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. While there is a logical progression from reasons to solutions, the transitions between ideas are not always smooth. To improve, practice using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'mishappening in agriculture' instead of 'accidents' or 'operational hazards,' and 'complete their essential thing' instead of 'meet their basic needs.' The repetition of basic terms like 'agriculture' and 'machines' limits the lexical variety. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to express complex ideas more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'agriculture play a vital role,' 'individuals still go hungry') and article usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity, such as 'sometimes machines are overheated and which result after catching fire the crop is destroyed.' Punctuation is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and refining the structure of complex sentences.
