Student answer (Band 6.5)

Until recently, there have been enormous changes in the way people's lives are affected by hunger. In this ultra modern epoch, there are certain individuals who are not able to get food and the primary reason is food wastage and high prices of grocery. However, in my contention, if government took some strict laws then it can be improved.

Fundamentally, it entails myriad of reasons and the predominant one is wastage. This is because it is widely acknowledged that when individuals have tremendous of food items available, then they may waste the food. Therefore, certain people have to sleep hungry. What could be a better example than marriage in India? where certain people wants to try different kinds of cousins and then it leads to the wastage, Moreover, they also believe that if there is poverty in the country, then citizens do not have access to grocery. Eventhough, there are some high income exists in the society, but most of them does not want to help poor people.

Nevertheless, there are potential ways to curb these problem. First constructive solutions is government should awake from slumber, should impose some strict laws to stop wastage and also motivate people with the help of organizing seminars. Furthermore, citizens as well as non profit organizations should come forward to help people.

To conclude, it can be restated that although there are ample of problems , but i assert that if hand in hand approach should be taken by authorities, then this problem could be solved. Otherwise, according to my contention, solving the problem would be next to impossible

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of food wastage is linked to marriage ceremonies in India, which is a specific example but lacks a broader analytical context. The discussion on solutions is also quite general, focusing on 'strict laws' and 'seminars' without explaining how these would practically address global hunger. The position is clear, but the arguments would benefit from more depth and a stronger connection to the global scale of the issue rather than focusing on isolated examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Fundamentally', 'Nevertheless', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'First constructive solutions is government should awake from slumber'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The use of punctuation, particularly the comma usage before 'where' and the misuse of 'Moreover', slightly disrupts the logical progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'ultra modern epoch', 'high prices of grocery' (should be 'groceries'), and 'cousins' (likely meant 'cuisines'). The phrase 'ample of problems' is grammatically incorrect. While the student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word choice and collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it is not flexible or precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('most of them does not want'), article usage ('the primary reason is food wastage'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For example, 'Eventhough, there are some high income exists in the society, but most of them does not want to help poor people' is structurally flawed. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing.
