Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for hunger and potential solutions—but the development is limited. The ideas, such as capitalism and government spending, are introduced but remain superficial and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples or logical consequences to ensure a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often disjointed. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices (e.g., 'Due to', 'In spite of'), they are often used incorrectly or lead to awkward phrasing. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, making the argument difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with several word-choice errors that hinder clarity, such as 'under starving' instead of 'starving' or 'proper nutrient food' instead of 'nutritious food'. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'capitilism' (spelling) and 'middle man' (inaccurate usage). To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise, academic terms and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include incorrect preposition usage ('Despite of', 'In spite on'), subject-verb agreement errors, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Government should work on taxation system, how to decrease these tax on food, however people can easily to buy'. You need to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors in articles and prepositions.
