Student answer (Band 6.5)
A lot of progress has been made in agricultural sector, but starvation still happens in most areas of the world.
Problems highlighting this statement include uneven distribution of food, increased natural disasters, droughts, floods, and poor living conditions.
For instance, food may be most abundant in some countries and sparse in other places due to poor management or distribution of food to poor countries which can lead to starvation and many other health problems such as anemia e.g. which indicates reduced blood cell production in starved individuals. Another condition related to inadequate water or food consumption is malnutrition common among most Africans or tribal people.
secondly, there are many ways to counter these problems associated with food shortage and hunger in certain poor areas of the world. One is that making sure that the authorities responsible for the distribution of sources make sure they monitor and regulate this process in a proper way. So that everyone will get their share of items. In this way hinger and other diseases
related to malnutrition and other conditions can be combated.
Having said that, if proper foundations are established and fundings are provided to improve other people's living environments and sanitary conditions then these issues could be resolved maybe not instantly but gradually. Medical staff and other specialists should be dispatched to areas affected by food related diseases and other problems.
The areas affected by natural disasters like floods and droughts should be managed by the government. Great damage can be done by these events to the fields and crops that are mostly the income for most farmers. Some funds should be issued by the institution to compensate these losses.
In conclusion, if there are many problems then finding answers to these problems is no big task at all.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the causes (distribution, natural disasters) are identified, the explanation lacks depth and specific, well-supported examples. The solutions provided are also quite general, such as 'monitor and regulate' or 'provide funding,' without explaining the mechanisms or feasibility. The conclusion is overly simplistic and does not effectively summarize the main points. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete, real-world examples to support your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the transition 'secondly' is used, but the initial paragraph lacks a clear introductory transition. Some sentences are loosely connected, and the flow between ideas could be smoother. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the institution,' which lacks a specific antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'malnutrition,' 'anemia,' and 'natural disasters,' but there is also a reliance on simpler, less precise language (e.g., 'a lot of progress,' 'big task'). There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'distribution of sources' instead of 'resources' and 'hinger' (a spelling error). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated academic vocabulary and ensure accurate word usage throughout your response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in agricultural sector'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For instance, 'e.g. which indicates' is grammatically awkward. Some sentences are fragmented or run-on, which affects the overall fluency. While you attempt complex structures, they are not always error-free. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent use of articles and prepositions will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
