Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt (reasons for hunger and solutions), but the development is quite limited. The ideas, such as 'lack of agricultural education' and 'government quotas', are mentioned but not sufficiently explained or supported with detailed reasoning. The examples provided, such as the mention of India, Bangladesh, and China, are vague and lack a clear connection to the argument. The essay tends to over-generalise, and the position is not fully developed throughout the response. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples and logical explanations to ensure the reader fully understands your perspective.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion', they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. For instance, the transition between the problem and the solution is abrupt. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother, more cohesive text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'agricultural prospectives' instead of 'perspectives' and 'production of food decline badly'. Some phrases are also grammatically incorrect or unnatural, such as 'hunger need' and 'strike about the situation'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the reliance on basic vocabulary prevent a higher score. You should aim to learn more topic-specific collocations and synonyms to express your ideas more accurately and naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children... suffers'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, such as '20% government spend on agriculture lands that was not a big deal'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading your work to correct common errors in tense and word order.
