Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the spite of advances made in agriculture , many people all around the world are still hungry .This is because , although we make significant advancement in the crop production but there are countries that have more population then the crop they produce . And they have to import cereals , grains , pulses to feed their citizens . And the people of that country have to buy the food that is imported so automatically they have to pay high prizes . So , the people that are poor cannot afford that food items . And they have stay hungry . What we can do to solve this problem is that developed countries share that futuristic agricultural technologies with the developing countries so the people in their countries that are underprivileged can get excess to food . And second thing we can do is that we introduce the concept of family planning in the underdeveloped countries . So, that we could control population in developing countries . And if there are less people and more food then , the prize of food autonomously goes down . The main reason is that have more people then, they have to focus on there education . If they have good educational opportunities , many students will go in the agricultural biotechnology . That means that they have their own people of the particular field that that need correction . So, their student will work for the better development of crop production . If they have people that are specialist of that particular field then, they work on it . Then the crop production significantly increase . And then automatically everyone get to full fill their daily needs . And we have to adapt the modern way of cultivation like small country in the Europe did who is Netherland . They produce crop more then they even need in their state so they import it .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between education and agricultural biotechnology is mentioned but not clearly explained, and the argument regarding population control is a bit simplistic. While the essay covers the requirements, the ideas lack the depth and logical extension expected at higher bands. The mention of the Netherlands is a relevant example, but it is integrated abruptly. To improve, you should focus on expanding your arguments with more detailed explanations and clearer links between the causes and the proposed solutions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks formal paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. The text is presented as a single block, which is a significant weakness in terms of structure. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'And', 'So', and 'If', they are often used repetitively and at the start of sentences, creating a mechanical feel. The logical flow is sometimes interrupted by abrupt transitions between ideas, such as moving from population control to education. Using clear paragraph breaks for the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion would greatly improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'high prizes' instead of 'high prices' and 'get excess to food' instead of 'get access to food'. Additionally, the phrase 'full fill' should be 'fulfill'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'agricultural biotechnology' and 'cultivation', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring that you use words in their correct context to avoid confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with article usage (e.g., 'the Europe', 'the Netherland'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as the frequent misuse of commas and the repetitive use of 'And' to start sentences. While there is an attempt to use complex structures with 'although' and 'if' clauses, these are often marred by errors in tense or word order. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors would be beneficial.
