Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for global hunger and suggesting solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided, such as 'food industry are not maintain food products', are unclear and lack logical depth. The examples given, such as the claim that New Zealand suffers from hunger for apples and bananas, are factually questionable and do not effectively support the argument. While the essay covers the requirements, the lack of clarity and the superficial nature of the arguments prevent it from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on providing more logical, well-reasoned explanations and relevant, accurate examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Commencing with', 'Nonetheless', and 'First and Foremost'. However, the use of these devices is often mechanical or slightly unnatural. Furthermore, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the link between agricultural development and food availability is not clearly articulated. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'food' and 'products'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'cannot known about development agriculture sectors' and 'free providing food products'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to grasp. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision and the presence of errors in basic word forms suggest a limited range. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise terminology related to global issues and agriculture.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as 'some food industry are not maintain' and 'consequence, this can reduce'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. Errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage are frequent and sometimes impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
