Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the claim that Asia produces 75% of the world's crops is a significant over-generalization that lacks factual accuracy, and the explanation of government negligence is repetitive. The solutions provided, such as monitoring exports and providing subsidies, are relevant but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is often mechanical. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'First' and 'Lastly', others are misused or missing, leading to a disjointed reading experience. For instance, the transition 'When the demand increases and the amount sufficient quantity is not in stock in addition the prices increases' is grammatically awkward and lacks logical flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing, while present, does not always effectively group related ideas, making the progression of the argument feel somewhat repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'agricultural stuff' and 'groceries', which are not ideal for an academic essay. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'made the access of food easy' instead of 'facilitate access to food'. There are also minor errors in collocation and word formation throughout the text. To improve, you should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to economics and agriculture.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('technology have developed', 'countries produces'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('this goes for a long time prices can decreased'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
