Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes (food waste and hoarding) and solutions (awareness and government regulation). However, the ideas are significantly under-developed. The explanation of food waste is anecdotal rather than analytical, and the discussion on hoarding lacks depth. Furthermore, the response is 28 words under the 250-word minimum, which limits the ability to fully develop the arguments as required for higher bands. The conclusion is also missing, and the personal anecdote at the end is not an effective way to conclude an academic essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often misused or mechanical, such as 'As I write in my first cause' or 'than after I post'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow is hindered by the lack of a clear conclusion and the disjointed nature of the final paragraph. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively support the development of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent word-choice errors, such as 'row food material' (raw food materials), 'chip item' (cheap items), and 'poverty of food' (food insecurity). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the reliance on basic, repetitive phrasing prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More sophisticated collocations and topic-specific terminology are needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include 'many cause are responsible', 'most of the people are wasting food more', and 'government should take strict action on that vendors'. Sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and tense consistency (e.g., 'When I was attend'). The punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before commas and periods. A wider range of error-free complex structures is required for a higher score.
