Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is an undeniable fact people across the globe suffer from hunger, despite technological breakthroughs in agriculture. In this regard, it is largely due to inadequate investment and the increasing frequency of climate-related disasters. Yet there are several ways to tackle this ongoing difficulty.
To commence with, one of the major causes that contribute to famine is the lack of sufficient attention to investing money into horticulture. To begin with, it is essential to buy cutting-edge technologies and hire workers who are better equipped with the necessary knowledge to manage the complex systems in this sector. However, some marginalized areas of the world do not have enough resources to meet these requirements. It can be seen in many African countries as they struggle to modernize their farming infrastructure emanate of limited budgets, leading to low productivity and food shortages. Moreover, extreme weather events are another reason for starvation. Natural disasters and prolonged droughts in certain parts continue to hinder food production.
However, the solutions are not simple, they can be highly effective if applied correctly. Firstly, the role of government intervention cannot be undermined. It is a powerful factor that can provide subsidies for agricultural operations. As a result, it would be possible to conduct training to improve employees’ agricultural skills. Furthermore, high-priced equipment can be purchased without concern about financial challenges. Secondly, collective action of countries can help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. For instance, international meetings such as COP29, show how contributions of nations are significant for various industries, including agriculture.
In conclusion, addressing food insecurity requires a multifaceted approach that blends financial support, education, and cooperation. By empowering vulnerable regions and reinforcing sustainable practices, the world can move closer to ensuring a balance between supply and demand.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes of global hunger and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. For instance, you identify 'inadequate investment' and 'climate-related disasters' as primary causes, and suggest 'government intervention' and 'international cooperation' as solutions. The position is clear throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is more balanced; for example, the explanation of how government subsidies specifically lead to improved agricultural skills could be more detailed. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the solutions. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to integrate cohesive devices more naturally within sentences rather than relying on them primarily at the start of paragraphs. Referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'technological breakthroughs', 'marginalized areas', 'farming infrastructure', and 'multifaceted approach' show a good command of topic-specific language. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as 'emanate of limited budgets', which should be 'emanating from' or 'due to'. While you use some less common items, the range is not yet wide enough to consistently demonstrate sophisticated control. Focusing on more precise collocations and avoiding slightly awkward phrasing will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate control over complex forms, such as 'It is an undeniable fact that people... suffer' and 'By empowering vulnerable regions... the world can move closer'. There are some grammatical slips, such as the comma splice in 'However, the solutions are not simple, they can be highly effective' (which should be a semicolon or a full stop) and the awkward phrasing 'emanate of'. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the majority of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. Increasing the variety of complex structures would further strengthen this area.
