Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 170 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you identify some causes of hunger, such as lack of agricultural innovation and overpopulation, the explanations are underdeveloped and repetitive. The solutions provided, such as hydroponics and terrace gardening, are mentioned but not sufficiently expanded upon to provide a comprehensive answer. To improve, you must ensure each point is supported with clear reasoning and illustrative examples, and you must meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the body of the text is presented as a single, disjointed paragraph. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'we can use'. The logical progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the sentences do not flow naturally from one to the next. To improve, you should organize your essay into clear paragraphs—an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'good production' and 'advance of tools'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'have shortage of food' instead of 'face food shortages' and 'incredible get food'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic with any degree of precision or sophistication. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to agriculture and global issues, and try to avoid repeating the same basic verbs and nouns throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the advancement'), pluralization ('many peoples'), and prepositional phrases ('despite of'). Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces placed incorrectly before commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Practicing the use of complex sentences, such as those using 'although' or 'because', will also help improve your score.
