Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 174 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the two parts of the prompt—reasons for hunger and potential solutions—the ideas are underdeveloped and the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. The position is not clearly maintained throughout, and the arguments lack the necessary depth and supporting evidence required for a higher band score. To improve, you must ensure you fully develop each point with clear explanations and examples, and ensure the essay reaches the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The foremost argument' and 'Another compiling argument', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or repetitively. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall structure. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by fully developed supporting points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'croping proceses', 'compiling' (used instead of 'compelling'), and 'shortag'. The use of vocabulary is often imprecise, which occasionally makes the meaning unclear. While there is an attempt to use more academic language, the lack of control over these terms prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on learning correct collocations and proofreading your work for spelling errors. Expanding your vocabulary related to global issues and agriculture will also help you express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('agricultural organizations firmly contribute' is unclear in context) and sentence structure. There are several awkward phrases, such as 'There is an growing debate surrounding the issue of advances in agriculture made the harvesting', which are grammatically incorrect. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, they are often faulty and impede the flow of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verb tenses and articles are used correctly. Regular practice with complex structures will help you gain better control.
