Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for hunger and potential solutions. However, the development is limited. The ideas regarding agricultural decline and government policy are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the explanation of why farmers are shifting jobs is vague, and the example of Punjab is not fully integrated to support the argument effectively. The position is clear, but the supporting points are underdeveloped, leading to a somewhat superficial treatment of a complex global issue. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, well-reasoned explanations for your arguments rather than repeating the same points in different ways.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion', they are sometimes used mechanically. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'The main reason for this that organic seeds are very costly', where the connection to the previous idea is disjointed. The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the overall argument feel somewhat disjointed and difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'food', 'farmers', and 'government' without demonstrating a wider range of academic or topic-specific vocabulary. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'production of food should be increase' (should be increased) and 'government very low paying to farmer' (government pays farmers very little). The lack of variety in your word choices restricts your ability to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, focus on learning synonyms and collocations related to agriculture, economics, and social policy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'production of food steadily decreasing' (is steadily decreasing) and 'India farmers stopped' (Indian farmers). Sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complex forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. The frequency of these errors is high, which significantly affects the clarity of your writing. You need to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb.
