Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by identifying causes and potential solutions, but the development is superficial and lacks clarity. The ideas regarding why people go hungry are repetitive and lack specific evidence or logical depth. For instance, the argument that the system is not doing its responsibilities is vague. Furthermore, the conclusion is contradictory, stating that the government should solve the problem so that 'people around the world still go hungry,' which is the opposite of the intended meaning. The response lacks a clear, consistent position and fails to provide well-supported arguments, resulting in a limited response to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt, and the internal structure of the paragraphs is repetitive. Referencing is often unclear, such as the use of 'it' without a clear antecedent. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the overall organisation does not facilitate a smooth flow of information, and the conclusion fails to effectively summarise the main points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic words like 'things,' 'problem,' and 'good.' There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'prepare well crops' instead of 'cultivate crops' or 'go to progress' instead of 'making progress.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. The student struggles to use academic or topic-specific terminology effectively, which hinders the ability to convey the intended meaning clearly. The vocabulary is generally at a basic level, which is inadequate for an academic task of this nature.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'our agricultural system are fully developed'), tense usage (e.g., 'Government should took a step'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to follow. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors in basic syntax. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar and punctuation throughout the text.
