Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding veganism is logically flawed and confusingly presented, as it suggests that shifting to a plant-based diet causes a lack of food supply, which contradicts the premise of agricultural efficiency. The response would benefit from more nuanced examples and a clearer explanation of how government intervention specifically addresses the root causes of hunger. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'This essay will illustrates' (grammatical error) and 'In conclution' (spelling error) are used to signal structure, but the internal flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between food exports and domestic hunger is not fully explained. The progression of ideas is present but lacks sophistication.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are several spelling errors, such as 'DAYILY', 'RESENT', 'VIGEN', 'ATHORITIES', 'PPROVIDE', and 'CONCLUTION'. Additionally, word choice is frequently imprecise, such as 'agricultural causes' instead of 'agricultural challenges' or 'food issues'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the frequent errors and lack of variety in word choice restrict the score. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of collocations related to global issues.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every government have', 'it make causes'), article usage, and incorrect verb forms ('will illustrates', 'avoid to westing'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are frequent and occur in basic structures, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage.
