Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and solutions. However, the response is incomplete, as it cuts off mid-sentence in the conclusion. While the ideas regarding education and financial support are relevant and logically developed, the abrupt ending prevents a full summary of the position. The introduction clearly outlines the essay's scope, but the lack of a finished conclusion impacts the overall task completion. To improve, ensure that all sections are fully drafted and that the conclusion synthesizes the main points effectively rather than trailing off.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a (partial) conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Due to this' are used to link ideas. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete final sentence, which negatively affects the overall flow. Referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that transitions between paragraphs are more sophisticated and that the essay structure is fully realized to maintain a consistent logical flow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas about agriculture and economics clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'modern agricultural tools' and 'financial support'. However, there are minor inaccuracies, such as 'information policy' (likely meaning 'insurance policy') and 'financial saved up'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding the range of synonyms and ensuring precise word choice would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'various advancement made' (should be 'advancements'), 'elderly people' (should be 'elderly farmers'), and 'people show be provided' (should be 'should'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are inconsistent capitalizations, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters like 'this essay'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic mechanical errors would be beneficial.
