Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, due to advancements in the field of technology many innovative machines are being introduced in the field of agriculture. Numerous people in the world are still facing hunger despite of innovations made in agriculture. In this essay, I will discuss both questions and will describe about possible solutions.

On one hand, engineers around the globe has made a lot of advances in agriculture but these equipments are too much expensive for the producers. In addition, the rise in industrialization has enhanced the emission of green house gases that ultimately affects the climate. Due to drastic changes in the weather conditions crops fail to produce increased yield. In addition, the rise in temperature melts the glaciers that increases the risk of floods in various countries. For example, in Pakistan every year floods destroy the crops that not only impact the producers but also effects the economy due to which the prices of wheat and other edible products rises and causes hunger in many areas of the country.

On the other hand, there are many solutions associated with these problems. The governments should provide subsidies to the farmers on advanced equipments so that they can purchase and utilize them to increase the efficiency of crops. In addition, the fertilizers and pest control products should be provided to farmers with the advise of proposed agricultural consultants who guide farmers about the best seasons for cultivation of crops so that they can produce efficient yield that not only improve their income but also enhance the economy of the country. In addition, government should build organizations that visit various areas and provide food to the people in slums who are starving.

In conclusion, agriculture has made great advances but people in various countries of the world are still facing hunger due to the costly equipments and unfavourable weather condition that do not support the cultivation of crops and also the floods that destroy the fields. Governments should make policies to support farmers and also provide food to poor people to eliminate on going hunger around the globe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes of global hunger and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically structured. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on climate change is clear, but the link between industrialization and specific agricultural failure could be more deeply explored. The solutions provided, such as government subsidies and agricultural consultancy, are practical and directly address the identified problems. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed explanation or specific, nuanced examples rather than general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'In addition,' and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive markers to create a more natural, sophisticated connection between the causes and the proposed solutions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific terminology like 'subsidies,' 'cultivation,' and 'industrialization.' However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'advise of proposed agricultural consultants' (should be 'advice') and 'impact the producers but also effects the economy' (should be 'affects'). The range is sufficient, but more precise and less common vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'engineers... has made', 'prices... rises') and preposition usage ('despite of'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly clunky. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and verb forms would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
