Student answer (Band 5.5)

Agriculture is one of the biggest industry in the world which provides us with food and crops and many other essential items which are necessary for the survival. Due to advancement in technology and invention of many new machineries has been very helpful in growing agriculture rapidly. Even with this much of advancements in the agriculture there are many people around the world which are unable to get proper food and they still go hungry.

The most notable reason to this issue is that the government usually exports the agricultural good to other countries while their own people starve and are facing difficulties to survive.

The Government should look deeply into into this matter and examine that their own people are not getting benefits of their own grown agriculture. The concerned authorities should make a proper roadmap in which they should prioritize their people and then the remaining should be exported.

For instance, Pakistan produces a great number of sugar and flour but most of them are exported to other countries and only leftovers are used by the local citizens and that too are overpriced due to the shortage of quantity.

The Government should prioritize their people and should provide good food to their people despite the consequences of less exports because the people of country have more rights on the quality food .

If the Government will not look after the benefits of their own people and their necessities than people will find it hard to survive and they will eventually starve to death.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development is quite limited. The essay focuses almost exclusively on government export policies as the sole cause and solution, ignoring other critical factors like climate change, poverty, distribution logistics, or conflict. The ideas are repetitive, and the argument lacks the depth required for a higher band. While the position is clear, the supporting evidence is narrow and relies on a single example (Pakistan). To improve, you should broaden your scope to include multiple perspectives and provide more comprehensive solutions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is somewhat mechanical. While there is a logical progression, the transitions between sentences are basic. For example, the jump from the introduction to the body paragraph is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some sentences feel disconnected. Paragraphing is present, but the paragraphs are quite short and lack internal cohesion. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph develops a single, clear theme with supporting sentences that flow naturally from one to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You use basic terms like 'biggest industry', 'proper food', and 'look deeply into'. There are some inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'invention of many new machineries' (machinery is uncountable) and 'benefits of their own grown agriculture'. While the meaning is clear, the lexical range is somewhat restricted, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'one of the biggest industry' (should be plural 'industries'), 'Due to advancement... has been' (a fragment lacking a clear subject), and 'look after the benefits of their own people and their necessities than people' (incorrect use of 'than' instead of 'then'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before punctuation marks. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence construction.
