Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, individuals believe that despite the advances made in cultivation of crops, a large number of people around the world are still hungry. This essay will explain the reason behind this trend before stating possible solutions to tackle this challenge.
To begin with, one major reason behind this case is that many individuals around the world lack stable income and they cannot afford to buy foodstuffs. As a result of lack of job opportunities in the society, many consumers do not have adequate financial resources to purchase food items, as it is very costly. For instance, many young adults residing in Ibadan, Nigeria complained that they are unable to by foodstuffs such as rice, yam and beans due to lack of employment opportunities.
One of the effective measures to solve this problem is that the government should ensure that job opportunities are available for the citizens and ensure they are duely paid. Therefore, this will ensure that individuals can easily afford food and drink products. Also, the authorities should establish non-governmental angencies and charity organisations that will cater for the less priviledge by providing food items and cash gifts. For example, charity organisation can provide variety of food items to the poor in the society.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that inspite of the improved farming techniques, majority of individuals around the world, people are still hungry. This could be as a result of lack of financial capacity to conveniently afford good food. Hence,to overcome this challenge, the government should ensure jobs are available for members of society and establish agencies that will help to alleviate hunger in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, focusing on economic factors and government intervention. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide a specific example regarding Ibadan, Nigeria, the explanation of the 'reasons' remains quite narrow, focusing almost exclusively on individual income rather than broader systemic issues like food waste, distribution, or climate change. To achieve a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more thoroughly explored and that you provide a more comprehensive overview of the complex factors involved in global food insecurity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and you use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure in the conclusion is slightly disjointed, particularly the phrase 'majority of individuals around the world, people are still hungry'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cultivation', 'financial resources', and 'alleviate'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that slightly hinder the precision of your writing, such as 'duely' (duly), 'angencies' (agencies), 'priviledge' (privileged), and 'by' instead of 'buy'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure accurate spelling of academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'individuals believe that despite the advances... a large number of people... are still hungry' (which is slightly awkward) and 'charity organisation can provide variety of food items' (missing articles). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles (a/the), and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision to avoid minor errors that persist throughout the text.
