Student answer (Band 5.5)

There have been a lot of advantages made in the field of agriculture today, but there are still so many people around the world that are fighting with hunger. The reason for that is the most of the agriculture products in any country get imported to other countries for the sake of money and increasing the sales. the people who are actually poor and need financial help for their basic needs stay unnoticed while the rich and influential people keep gaining benefits from the import and export of the agriculture. those who actually work hard for it barely get what they sow. this problem can be solved only if there is a fixed percentage of agriculture every year that is kept and used locally to make goods at much lower rates so they are easily accessible to people with less resources. while the rest of percentage can still be used to import out of the country to maintain the financial balance of the country. for example, in china, a huge range of products used by their people are made in the country and barely anything they used is exported. Still, the large number of production results in them importing most of their products to other countries and generating a really big revenue from that every year. if we follow the same example as to keep enough for our own people so that they do not stay hungry and then give the rest to other countries, then every country will have less percentage of poverty.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The explanation regarding agricultural exports is a valid point, but the proposed solution—a fixed percentage for local use—is presented in a simplistic manner. The example of China is factually confusing and lacks clarity, as it contradicts the premise of the argument. To reach a higher band, you need to provide more nuanced reasoning and more accurate, well-explained examples that directly support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is a significant issue for coherence. It is presented as a single block of text, making it difficult for the reader to follow the transition between the problem and the solution. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'for example' and 'while', the overall flow is mechanical. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of clear structure. To improve, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs for the introduction, body paragraphs for each prompt component, and a conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'a lot of advantages', 'fighting with hunger', and 'really big revenue'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'agriculture products' instead of 'agricultural products'. While the meaning is clear, the vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common items expected at the 6.0+ level. Focus on using more precise academic terminology related to economics and agriculture.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Issues include missing articles ('the most of the agriculture products'), incorrect verb forms ('barely anything they used is exported'), and run-on sentences. The punctuation is particularly weak, with many sentences starting with lowercase letters and a lack of proper sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence structure prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and basic sentence punctuation.
