Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the essay identifies factors like infrastructure and inflation, the explanations are often vague or lack logical depth, such as the confusing mention of 'inflation' and 'purchasing power' in the first body paragraph. The solutions provided in the second paragraph are also somewhat disjointed, with examples like the India-China trade relationship being slightly tangential to the core issue of global hunger. To improve, ensure that each point is clearly explained and directly linked to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'primarily, The major reason...' and 'Meanwhlie, The china export...'. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors. The conclusion is also quite repetitive and does not effectively synthesise the main points. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring a smoother logical progression between ideas would significantly enhance the coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often imprecise. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'stortage', 'infreastuctrue', 'frarming', 'povarity', 'anlaysis', and 'reduse'. Additionally, word choice is often awkward or incorrect, such as 'sudden fell of currency' instead of 'sudden fall' or 'currency devaluation', and 'countries unionship' instead of 'international cooperation'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors and the reliance on basic vocabulary prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate spelling and learning topic-specific collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are persistent issues with article usage ('an agriculture', 'The china'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or contain run-on structures, such as 'The significant changes in agriculture technology and countries unionship in production, which can only gradually decline that rate poor food avaliablity.' The control over complex structures is weak, and errors in basic punctuation and capitalization are common. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage.
