Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for hunger and potential solutions—but the development is insufficient. The essay is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas regarding food waste and distribution are relevant, they are presented in a fragmented manner without sufficient supporting evidence or logical expansion. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which further impacts the overall task response. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed examples and ensure the essay meets the minimum length requirement to allow for a fully developed argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'First and foremost', 'However', 'In conclusion'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the issue of food waste and the issue of distribution is abrupt. The paragraphing is present but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the logical progression of the text. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'farmers are grows enough crops' and 'third person for his profits make price high'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultivation' and 'starvation', the overall range is narrow. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and varied vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('farmers are grows'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors that make them difficult to follow, such as 'People should aware reduce waste of foods'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and punctuation is often inconsistent. The frequent errors in basic grammar and the incomplete sentence at the end of the essay significantly impact the clarity of the communication. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors will be essential for improvement.
