Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of 'unequal distribution' and 'poverty' lacks depth and specific, concrete examples beyond general statements. The introduction is repetitive, stating the intention to discuss causes and solutions multiple times. While the position is clear, the arguments would benefit from more detailed elaboration and specific real-world evidence to move beyond a Band 5 level. The response covers the requirements but remains quite basic in its analytical depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To exemplify', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'On the paradoxical side', which does not fit the context of the argument well. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. While the overall progression is discernible, the lack of sophisticated linking and occasional awkward transitions limits the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of incorrect word forms, such as using 'hungry' (adjective) instead of 'hunger' (noun) in phrases like 'The issue of hungry'. Other errors include 'productive of meal' instead of 'food production' and 'financially stability' instead of 'financial stability'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on basic terms. To improve, the student needs to focus on word formation and collocations to express ideas more accurately and naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'Rich society individuals has' and 'poverty also influence'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading and fundamental grammatical rules is required.
