Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for hunger and potential solutions—but the development is limited. The explanation regarding agricultural costs is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth, focusing primarily on machinery costs rather than broader systemic issues like distribution or economic inequality. The solutions provided are also quite basic, relying on general suggestions like 'donating food' without exploring policy-level interventions. While the response is relevant, the ideas are not fully extended, and the analysis remains at a superficial level throughout the essay. To improve, you should aim to provide more nuanced arguments and concrete examples that clearly link the cause to the effect.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'for this' is used repeatedly to signal consequence, which creates a repetitive flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by unclear referencing. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used with the flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring they are used naturally will significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'broken people' (which is an incorrect collocation for people living in poverty) and 'things'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'costing need' and 'production of the vegetables are getting higher in prices'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise academic terms related to agriculture and economics, and pay closer attention to collocations and word forms to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the production... are getting'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('there is so much advances'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the use of capital letters after commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and basic punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
