Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is undeniable that, despite significant evolvements in agriculture, millions of people in the world suffer from starvation. This is mainly due to poverty, conflict and unequally distribution of food. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this problem and suggest possible solution.
One of the major reason is poverty and also unequal distribution of food. Although modern technology has increased agriculture production, many people from developing countries are not being able to afford sufficient amount of food. In addition, food may not reach to the vulnerable communities due to poor transportation and distribution systems. Another factor is war, it mainly causes uncertainty as it destroys farmland, even replaces farmer and leaving many people starving and dependent on humanitarian aid. Climate change is also making situation worse by bringing droughts, landslides and floods by interrupting food supplies and destroy crops.
There are several measures that would help address this issue. Firstly, government should mainly focused on developing good infrastructure, better transportation and irrigation system for the good flow of supplies of food to the vulnerable communities and should focus maintaining modern technologies to harvest more goods for the farmers. Moreover, many developed countries and international organizations should immediately provide humanitarian aid during emergency situations of natural disaster. Wealthy countries should also try to tackle this situation by reducing wastage of foods by recycling.
In conclusion, hunger continue to exist because of several problems like poverty, climate related problems and unequal distribution of food, not just lack of complete food so, it is our responsibility and people from all around the world to recycle the good and wasting food especially from restaurant.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, covering poverty, conflict, and climate change, and suggesting infrastructure and humanitarian aid. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the suggestion to 'recycle the good and wasting food' is a bit simplistic and lacks the depth expected for a Band 7 response. While the position is clear, the essay would benefit from more detailed examples or a more nuanced exploration of the complexities involved in agricultural distribution to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the causes to the solutions. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Another factor', and 'Firstly', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the comma splice in 'Another factor is war, it mainly causes uncertainty'. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the management of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'humanitarian aid', 'vulnerable communities', and 'irrigation system'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or incorrect collocations, such as 'unequally distribution' (instead of 'unequal distribution'), 'harvest more goods' (instead of 'increase crop yields'), and 'complete food'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a limited range for more precise or sophisticated expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('government should mainly focused', 'hunger continue to exist'), article misuse, and awkward phrasing ('many people from developing countries are not being able to afford'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage in complex sentences. While the errors do not prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to limit the score to the 6.0 band, as the control over complex structures is not yet consistent.
