Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as climate change and industrialization, and the solutions provided, like government intervention and individual responsibility, are logical. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the link between industrialization and starvation is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with specific evidence. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more detailed examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, it covers all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To elaborate with', 'Moreover', 'First and foremost', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these transitions are slightly unnatural or misused, such as 'To elaborate with' and 'Nextly'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the mechanical nature of some cohesive devices limits the score. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era', 'starvation', and 'industrialization'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'tackle with this problem' (should be 'tackle this problem'), 'a starving' (should be 'starvation'), and 'sale their valuable land' (should be 'sell'). Spelling errors like 'industrilization' and 'hurrican' also occur. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, the inaccuracies prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage ('the agriculture sector'), verb forms ('climate change always increased'), and sentence construction ('because they trapped in debt'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and spacing issues around punctuation marks. Complex structures are attempted, but they often contain errors that slightly impede the flow. The control of grammar is inconsistent, which is characteristic of the 5.5 to 6.0 range.
