Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes such as poverty and climate change, and solutions like infrastructure investment. However, the development is quite superficial. The introduction is overly wordy and focuses on irrelevant meta-commentary about 'different mindsets' rather than introducing the topic. The body paragraphs lack depth; for instance, the suggestion to 'boost local economies' is mentioned but not explained or supported with specific reasoning. The conclusion introduces new points (e.g., donating restaurant food) that should have been integrated into the body. To reach a higher band, you must provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples for each point raised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the structure is problematic. The introduction is largely filler and does not effectively set up the essay. The body paragraphs are very short and lack logical flow; they read more like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'In conclusion', 'For example'), the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or abrupt. The paragraphing is also inconsistent, with the conclusion being disproportionately long compared to the body paragraphs. Improving the logical progression between ideas and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use some relevant terms like 'supply chain networks', 'infrastructure', and 'refrigerated transportation', which is positive. However, there is some repetitive phrasing and basic word choices, such as 'different people have different perceptions' and 'make research'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'make precautions' instead of 'take precautions' and 'prevent food from waste' instead of 'prevent food waste'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and idiomatic expressions would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'This type of scenario will be occurs' is grammatically incorrect, as is 'by boost the local economies' (should be 'by boosting'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'in world' instead of 'in the world'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be highly beneficial.
