Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, food shortage and expected famines in the upcoming future are a topic of importance for nations all over the world. Along with developing countries, already developed countries appear worried too. There is not a single reason for this almost unsurmountable problem, there are many reasons for the shortage of food during the current era. This essay below discusses the main causes of world hunger despite the advancement in the field of agriculture.
According to the latest information the population of the world has exceeded 8 billion people today. The first, and apparently, the main reason about this issue is the overpopulation with the passage of time.
With the increasing number of people in the world day by day, new houses and industries are rapidly appearing each day. The increasing population leads to the usage of more and more resources like housing and food, clothing etc. Experts predict that if the population keeps rising with the same speed soon we would not have enough resources for everyone in need. The area meant for agriculture in the past has diminished greatly, which lead to the hunger problems today. For example, third world countries which are over populated are suffering greatly.
Another reason for that is the increase in global warming which is causing environmental crisis is causing non-seasonal rains which are destroying the crops. Natural disasters like floods and heavy rains, melting glaciers take away all the nutrients of the land with the water flow. It leaves the land barren and unable to grow crops.
The solutions to this problem require everybody's understanding and help. We should overcome the problem of over population by concept and teaching of family planning so we have enough resources for the upcoming generations. There should be a specified area for agriculture only. Farmers who are still using outdated methods should be properly educated about advanced technology. Polution and deforestation should be controlled.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (overpopulation and climate change) and solutions (family planning, land management, and education). The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, though the explanation of how overpopulation leads to hunger could be more nuanced. For instance, the link between urban expansion and agricultural land loss is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by discussing food distribution or economic factors. The position is consistent throughout, and the essay maintains a formal tone suitable for an academic task. To reach a higher band, ensure that the solutions are as thoroughly explored as the problems, perhaps by providing a concrete example of a successful agricultural policy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'The first, and apparently, the main reason' and 'Another reason for that is' are used to transition between points. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved; the final paragraph is quite brief and could be better integrated. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language such as 'environmental crisis,' 'non-seasonal rains,' and 'deforestation.' However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'unsurmountable problem' (should be 'insurmountable') and 'over populated' (should be 'overpopulated'). The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but the use of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary would elevate the score. The repetition of 'each day' and 'every day' suggests a need for a wider variety of synonyms to enhance the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist, such as 'the population of the world has exceeded 8 billion people today' (the 'today' is redundant) and 'which lead to the hunger problems' (should be 'has led' or 'leads'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'is causing environmental crisis is causing,' which creates a repetitive and confusing structure. Despite these errors, the meaning is rarely obscured, and the writer demonstrates a reasonable command of basic grammatical rules.
