Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The explanation regarding financial issues and the cost of agricultural technology is somewhat repetitive and lacks specific, well-supported examples. The solutions proposed, such as government schemes, are mentioned but remain vague. The response tends to over-generalize, and the connection between the high cost of machinery and the inability of the poor to afford food is not clearly articulated. To improve, you should provide more concrete examples, such as specific government policies or economic factors, to better support your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'Therefore' are used, they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a way that makes the sentences feel disjointed. The referencing is occasionally confusing, such as in the second paragraph where the link between taxes and the inability to afford food is not clearly established. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear progression of ideas, making the argument feel somewhat repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which occasionally impedes communication. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'dealed with financial issue' instead of 'faced financial difficulties' and 'full meat' instead of 'nutritious food'. The repetition of basic words like 'people', 'food', and 'money' suggests a limited range. To reach a higher band, you need to work on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context. Spelling errors, such as 'finacial' and 'introdue', also detract from the overall quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('many citizens could not be ate'), incorrect verb tenses ('had been changed'), and awkward sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often faulty and contain errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. The range of structures is limited, and the frequent errors in basic grammar significantly impact the clarity of the writing.
