Student answer (Band 5.5)

Although, there are enormous advances made in agriculture, many people still go hungry accross the world. This is mainly because the number of people working on agricultureal lands are significantly less than the consumers of vegies and other agri-priducts. This problem can be solved if everyone grow some vegetables or fruits in their garden instead of buying from the supermarkets.

One of the main reasons of people still go hungry worldwide even after the advancements is that the number of consumers is significantly higer than the numver of producers. The number of people who are vegan is increasing as the time pases while the number of people who work on agricultural lands to produce products may remain unchanged. Most of the population of the world does not consume meat and is living on agricultural products. For example, when a person does not consume meat to balance his nutrients then he will need more products produced by farmer to keep nutrients balanced in their bodies. As a result, demand of agricultural products increases while production remains unchanged which leaves many people hungry.

To resolve this issue, people should grow some products in their gardens which they can eat and fulfil their needs. The authoroties can make this possible by introducing some laws and spreading awareness related to kitchen gardens. For example, when people will start growing vegetables or fruits for themselves then they can fulfil their needs while other who are not growing eadible things in their garden can purchase from super markets. As a result, the number of consumers and producers will become equal which lead to meet the needs of everyone and the proportiom of starving population will decrease.

In conclusion, people should eat meat and grow eadible things in their gardens to reduce the percentage of people who go hungry.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development of ideas is limited and somewhat illogical. The argument that global hunger is primarily caused by a lack of farmers compared to vegans is a significant oversimplification and lacks factual support. Furthermore, the suggestion that individual kitchen gardens could solve global hunger is not a realistic or well-developed solution for a complex, systemic issue. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments are weak and rely on questionable premises, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should focus on broader, more systemic factors such as poverty, food distribution, and climate change.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'For example' used twice in a similar way). The transition between the problem and the solution is somewhat abrupt. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the internal flow of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by the lack of clear, logical links between sentences. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit simplistic. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'accross', 'agricultureal', 'vegies', 'priducts', 'higer', 'numver', 'pases', 'authoroties', 'eadible', and 'proportiom'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'consumers', 'producers', and 'nutrients', the overall lexical range is limited. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to economics and global issues, such as 'food insecurity', 'supply chain', or 'socio-economic factors'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Although, there are...' (incorrect comma usage), 'the number of people... are' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'other who are not growing' (missing plural 'others'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex structures. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement, punctuation, and article usage. Proofreading your work for these common errors would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
