Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for hunger and potential solutions—but the development is limited and the essay is under the required word count. The ideas are largely anecdotal, focusing on personal experience with tractor imports rather than a broader analysis of global agricultural issues. While the position is clear, the lack of depth and the failure to meet the minimum length requirement significantly impact the score. To improve, you should broaden your scope to include global factors like climate change, distribution logistics, or economic inequality, and ensure you expand on each point with sufficient detail to meet the 250-word threshold.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the text is presented as a single, disjointed block of ideas. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the flow of arguments feel mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition between the cost of machinery and the issue of crop pricing is abrupt. To improve, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and solutions, and a conclusion. Using linking words such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' and 'in addition' will help guide the reader through your arguments more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'good,' 'bad,' and 'money.' There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'advance mad machinery' instead of 'advanced machinery' and 'custon' instead of 'customs.' The range is insufficient to express complex ideas about agricultural economics. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to agriculture and economics, such as 'subsidies,' 'infrastructure,' 'supply chain,' and 'profit margins.' Additionally, work on proofreading to eliminate basic spelling errors that distract from your message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('all the farmer have'), article usage ('the heavy and advance mad machinery'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization. Practice writing complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions like 'although,' 'because,' and 'which' to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
