Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been a growing concern about agriculture and fulfilling the need of people. It is often argued that there has been a significant advances in agriculture, but the world is still unable to meet every one's need. This essay will explain the causes of this problem and also mention its suitable solutions.
One of the major causes of hunger is uncontrolled population growth in the world. World's population is increasing rapidly and resources are limited to support such a large population. This is not only an alarming situation for the world but also it is putting the world under extreme financial crisis. This problem can be tackled by making genetically engineered products. For example, we can genetically modify organisms and insert our gene of interest to get desirable products such as large quantity of milk, meat, eggs and better crops by using genetically modified seeds. These procedures can fulfil the requirements of a wider range of people.
Another cause of hunger is an unequal distribution of food and resources. Some people get an access to a wide range of products while others are starving. For instance, in developing countries, resources are more likely to distribute among major cities and provinces, whereas a lot of people from deprived areas hardly able to get sufficient meals. As a result of unavailability of food in disadvantaged areas lead to malnutrition and associated diseases. In order to combat starvation, the government should ensure proper distribution of food and resources among people.
All things considered, though modern practices of agriculture ensure better food production, people are starving due to an unequal distribution of food and uncontrolled population growth. These problems can be tackled if governments should introduce new projects like producing genetically modified organisms.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: causes of hunger and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as population growth and unequal distribution. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion of genetically modified organisms is presented as a primary solution, but the explanation lacks depth regarding the economic or political barriers to food access. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements of the task, but the depth of analysis is consistent with a band 6.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the major causes', 'Another cause', and 'As a result', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes and solutions. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure is coherent throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'genetically engineered products', 'malnutrition', and 'deprived areas'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'significant advances' (should be 'significant advance' or 'significant advances' used correctly with the verb) and 'get an access to' (should be 'gain access to'). The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'there has been a significant advances' (subject-verb agreement), 'every one's need' (should be 'everyone's'), and 'unavailability of food... lead to' (should be 'leads to'). Punctuation is generally fine, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score for accuracy.
