Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for global hunger and potential solutions. However, the development of these ideas is limited. The causes are touched upon briefly, focusing on corporate hoarding, while the solutions are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the suggestion to 'stop deforestation' is mentioned but not explained in relation to agricultural efficiency. The ideas are often presented as a list rather than a cohesive argument. To reach a higher band, you need to expand on your points with specific examples or logical explanations rather than just stating them. The position is clear, but the overall development is quite basic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand', they are often used incorrectly or do not connect the ideas logically. For example, the transition 'On the other hand' is used to introduce a point that supports the previous sentence rather than contrasting it. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear central theme would significantly enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms and struggle with word choice and collocation. For example, you use 'improvement and enhance' (incorrect word form) and 'exceed amount' instead of 'excessive amount'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'vegitables', 'minamal', 'coorporation', and 'incourage'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word formation and spelling restrict the score. To improve, focus on learning the correct forms of words and expanding your range of vocabulary related to global issues and economics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'This type of problem can solved' (missing 'be') and 'somebody can't afford that'. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty or punctuated incorrectly, such as the fragment 'who started thier journeys toward the agricultural field'. The misuse of articles and prepositions is also common. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring verbs are correctly conjugated, and paying closer attention to punctuation, particularly the use of full stops and commas.
