Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for hunger and potential solutions—but the development is very limited. The ideas, such as population growth and wealth inequality, are mentioned but lack sufficient explanation or concrete examples. The essay reads more like a list of points rather than a structured argument. The position is not clearly established, and the response lacks the depth required for a higher band. To improve, you should expand on each point with specific evidence or logical reasoning to ensure the reader fully understands your perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there are attempts at paragraphing, the transitions between ideas are abrupt and often confusing. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'that is the second reason' or 'first of all'. The logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by fragmented sentences and unclear referencing. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'things', 'people', and 'hungry'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'I AM AGREE' (should be 'I agree') and 'advance things' (should be 'technological advancements'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and topic-specific terminology related to agriculture and global economics, and avoid using informal or vague language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent (e.g., 'population are increased', 'food are not provided'). The essay relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, with very few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they are often grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
